Data is Fueling Productivity in the Digital Workplace

Finding the right way to support workplace productivity has traditionally been a tightrope for business leaders. Taking a too active role stokes fears of “Big Brother,” but organizations need to operate at a certain pace to be successful. Remote work and flexible hours are often cited as popular solutions, but as digital transformation strategies mature, and IT departments enhance their analytics capabilities, new windows into individual workstyles are becoming available. Workplace collaboration platforms, which give employees complete access to the tools needed for success, are growing more advanced in their ability to track and map productivity trends. Data has a new role in helping businesses understand how workforces are operating, helping managers glean new insight into how they can best support staff.

The implications of this newfound understanding are far reaching. In the near-term, a wider view of employee productivity patterns can help solve a number of challenges facing COOs and CIOs – including ensuring the adoption of new tools, raising engagement rates and fostering positive employee relationships. In the long-term, access to productivity data can serve as a bedrock for the integration of next-generation tools. Fuze’s CTO, Keith Johnson, has discussed at length the potential AI-powered personal assistants have in enabling greater productivity. Understanding where productivity gaps lie ahead of time enable IT leaders to strategically integrate bots and other advanced tools where they’ll be most effective, rather than pursue a “deploy first and ask questions later” method.

Interestingly, leveraging a unified workforce data platform also eliminates a concern cited by early remote work critics. When remote work was first being trialed among organizations, detractors were concerned over managers’ ability to understand how teams are working together, because they wouldn’t have the literal visibility. Through data, the visibility is not only returned, but enhanced. Intelligent analytics solutions offer insights and recommendations without human bias, so leaders can make the most informed decisions.

In today’s digital economy, there is a lot of desire around integrating emerging and innovative technologies. There is also, however, an increased need to fully understand how these tools are going to impact the day-to-day employee experience. This begins by maximizing insight into where your business stands today – employee channel preferences, productivity habits, and so on. IT and operations leaders alike benefit by arming themselves with this knowledge. This type of data is an untapped vein of information that is critical to success through the future of work.
