Enterprise Connect Virtual: 2020 Conference Recap

While all enterprise communications trade shows moved online with the emergence of COVID-19, Enterprise Connect 2020 was no exception. The virtual conference was held from August 3-6, in a completely virtual interactive forum. Sessions were live streamed from the main hub, with easily accessible “rooms” for the agenda, exhibitor virtual spaces, a digital library and a media center. In one of the breakout rooms, our partner Five9 got creative and even had a live stream puppy cam that attendees could view on breaks.

Across the four days, sessions were offered by thought leaders in the unified cloud communications space. Overwhelmingly, almost all discussed how COVID-19 has drastically changed the enterprise communications landscape and work as we know it. Additionally, several trends were identified across the course of the week:

Continued investment in remote work tools by the enterprise: Now that most enterprises have made their initial investment of remote work tools to provide quick solutions for their employees, there will be more serious consideration of adopting unified communications solutions as the workforce continues to stay remote.

Developing a cloud-first strategy is beneficial for business in the long-term: For businesses in a hybrid or fully on-premises model for their communications, there’s no denying that with the new “normal”, fully embracing the cloud makes the most sense. With the remote workforce evolving as quickly as it has, there are many advantages to adopting a cloud-first strategy so that important information and communication can be easily accessed by employees anywhere in the world.

There is now room to take UCC adoption to the next level: Now that organizations were forced into turning 100% remote during the pandemic, adoption of UCC tools was inevitable to ensure that employees had a way to communicate that was secure, reliable, and productive. Now key stakeholders have an opportunity to take end user adoption training to an even more advanced degree as they ramp up training programs in engaging, interactive ways. The rise of communications platform as a service (CPaaS): We’re likely at the beginning of a long-term shift to greater remote work that will continue on well after the pandemic. As enterprises turn to CPaaS to streamline processes and communications in direct response to other current situations, they’ll then be able to leverage these advances for whatever new realities come along in the next era.
