The looming sense of procrastination falls over everyone from time to time, but it can be hard to admit when it affects your work day. Actively steering yourself in the direction of productivity is a vital force behind the future of work. With more companies scrapping the traditional 9-5 office model, work is an becoming an action, not a place. In fact, according to Workforce Futures: The Role of People in the Future of Work, 89 percent of people would prefer a job that offers flexible work options.
But working where you want, when you want is a responsibility that some individuals are not immediately accustomed to. As remote employees are quick to embrace the “work from everywhere” approach, it’s important to consider how to boost productivity in the face of procrastination. Here are some tips for fighting procrastination when your office doubles as your home.
Write down deadlines
When you’re working from the comfort of your home, deadlines can sometimes come sooner than you think. Tracking your tasks in order of deadlines helps you prioritize what needs to get done first, and also helps you visualize what you’ve already accomplished.
Find your peak productivity hours in the day
Ditching the traditional 9-5 allows you to set your own hours and capitalize on the time of day when you do your best work. If you’re not a morning person, give yourself time to wake up, drink your coffee or tea, and relax before diving into your work. Yet, if you wake up bright-eyed and ready to go, begin your day earlier to maximize time before emails pile up and meetings block your calendar.
