Here’s What You Need to Read Before Flex Part 1

As we countdown the days until Flex Summit (click the link to snag tickets), here’s a curated reading list aligned to the day’s agenda and ahead of the innovative discussions you will hear on the future of work. Still waiting to sign up?  It’s not too late to join us on June 5!

Impact:

The morning discussion will introduce trends impacting workplaces globally and among distributed teams, while also learning what it means to go “solo.” The following articles are an introduction for what’s to come during the morning presentations.

This year was the first time that millennials made up 50 percent of the global workforce, bringing different expectations and approaches to work and productivity. This article provides an HR perspective on how “a more connected workplace means a better culture, which leads to happier employees, greater teamwork and less staff turnover.”

This newsletter, from one of our distinguished presenters, is a weekly glimpse into the life and work of a world renowned  physician, strategist, and the 2018 Nelson Mandela International Changemaker Award. Not only does she often make book recommendations as part of her weekly update, but most recently, she shared some of her favorite podcast episodes that she finds both motivational and inspirational.

Before award-winning Editor, Michael Hopkins, teaches us how to better recruit “soloists,” read his research on why current data collecting systems are making it harder to understand the significant impact freelancers have on our economy and the many roles they play in different industries.

Infrastructure:

How will AI and robotics continue to change the organizational structure of our workplaces? Our second group of speakers will address this topic during our session on infrastructure.  The following articles are a glimpse into Flex’s larger discussions surrounding how machines will augment our work.

AI algorithms were an invaluable tool to help companies such as Google and Microsoft grow into the largest companies in the world. But can the benefits of AI extend one step further and help workers become better managers? Ankur Modi’s study of workplace patterns and trends provides an in-depth look at how AI can support managers as they strengthen team collaboration.

How will AI affect specific industries? Our Chief Marketing Officer, Brian Kardon, takes a look at how AI is impacting email marketing campaigns. For example, 79 percent of B2B marketers say, “it’s the most effective channel for demand generation.” Marketers see this technology as a tool to  reach audiences, establish a strategic cadence, send relevant content and engage with audiences throughout the entire buyer’s journey based on individual preferences.

Meet Gita, Piaggio Fast Forward’s robot designed to be a hands-free carrying solution holding up to 45 pounds. Without giving away any spoilers; take a moment to read all about Piaggio’s approach to using robotic technology to make our lives easier (Hint: there may be a surprise appearance during this discussion).

Tune in tomorrow for highlights on the second half of the day.
