Interview with Maxine Hronek, Linear Collider Collaboration
1. What does your organization do?
The Linear Collider Collaboration is an organisation that brings the two most likely candidates, the Compact Linear Collider Study (CLIC) and the International Liner Collider (ILC), together under one roof.
Headed by former LHC Project Manager Lyn Evans, it strives to coordinate the research and development work that is being done for accelerators and detectors around the world and to take the project linear collider to the next step: a decision that it will be built, and where.
Some 2000 scientists — particle physicists, accelerator physicists, engineers — are involved in the ILC or in CLIC, and often in both projects. They work on state-of-the-art detector technologies, new acceleration techniques, the civil engineering aspect of building a straight tunnel of at least 30 kilometres in length, a reliable cost estimate and many more aspects that projects of this scale require. The Linear Collider Collaboration ensures that synergies between the two friendly competitors are used to the maximum.
2. How did you come across Fuze?
Fuze was the most economical choice for us. I did a search on the internet for conferencing tools. Fuze was a smaller company than others we had looked at using. I liked the idea of the personal attention of a smaller company as well. We receive excellent support from Fuze, and while today the company may be steadily growing, we still receive the great support we’ve always had with Fuze.
3. How do you use Fuze today?
We use Fuze for our Directorate's management meeting. Our Directorate includes people in five different countries. With a collaboration like ours, colleagues are truly global and could be anywhere in the world at the time of our weekly meeting. Fuze makes having a meeting easy and keeps our travel costs down. You can join a meeting from your office, airport, even trains (yes, this does happen).
We use Fuze for large meetings as well as one-on-one meetings as it is user-friendly and works on a number of platforms from laptops to smartphones. It makes it almost impossible to miss a meeting, although we do give people a break once in while...
