Three Workplace Trends From This Year’s Digital Transformation Expo
Last week, Fuze joined over 5,000 enterprise IT professionals at Digital Transformation EXPO Europe — the UK event that brings together industry experts, futurists, engineers and thought leaders to discuss the future of the digital workplace.
Through a series of talks and panel discussions, the expo helped to paint a picture of a new working world that today’s businesses must prepare for. Here are three of the workplace trends identified at the show:
New roles will emerge
According to a World Economic Forum study, 65 percent of today’s school children will one day be employed in positions that don’t even exist today . Evolving technologies, changing business needs, and new working styles are creating fundamentally different job roles every year.
Businesses need to consider how talent can thrive in this changing environment. This means incorporating greater learning and workplace training initiatives to ensure that current workers are adaptable and flexible to changes in their roles. Open communication and a workplace culture built around cross-functional knowledge sharing will be vital.
AI-phobia will come to an end
Several speakers took to the stage to discuss the changing nature of artificial intelligence (AI) and the huge potential it’s already showing within customer-facing functions, such as the call center. Concerns around job losses and robots taking over the world are abating. The reality is that most businesses are starting to see AI for what it really is — an opportunity to streamline processes, boost productivity, and free up workers for more high-touch tasks.
Gary Kasparov, author of Deep Thinking: Where Machine Intelligence Ends and Human Creativity Begins, spoke in depth about this topic during his expo panel on AI ethics. He argued that, instead of fearing machines, we should celebrate their capacity to augment our human capabilities. Fuze’s research points to this attitude being adopted within the workplace, with 65 percent of workers welcoming AI and automation to free them up from manual, repetitive tasks.
Data will provide new levels of understanding
While the benefits of big data have long been discussed, only recently have those benefits become tangible for businesses. Across nearly every talk at Digital Transformation Expo, business leaders shared examples of how a data-driven approach has improved their products and their wider business.
